Handyman in Surrey
Surrey has the newest and largest housing stock we work in, a lot of it built to accommodate secondary suites. It is also the furthest from our base, and we would rather be straight with you about what that means for scheduling.
Newer large-format detached homes
Much of Surrey's detached housing is recent and built large — generous square footage, multiple storeys, high ceilings and often a finished basement. Construction is modern and consistent, which makes the work predictable.
Scale is the variable that catches people out. A whole-house painting or flooring job in a large Surrey home is a substantially bigger undertaking than the same job in an East Vancouver bungalow, and the quote reflects area rather than the number of rooms.
Basement and secondary suites
Secondary suites are widespread in Surrey, and suite work brings its own requirements — separate entrances, egress windows, ceiling heights, fire separation and ventilation are all governed by rules rather than preference.
If you are creating or upgrading a suite, this is not general handyman territory. It needs the relevant permits and, for a legal suite, City of Surrey approval. We will tell you plainly where a job crosses from finishing work into regulated construction.
Honest travel time from our base
We are based in Vancouver, and Surrey is the longest trip we make. Depending on the time of day and the state of the bridges, it can be well over an hour each way, which is time nobody is being productive.
Surrey carries a flat $65 travel charge per visit — once, not per hour, and it does not change with the size of the job. Vancouver, Burnaby, Richmond, New Westminster and the North Shore carry none. We would rather state this clearly at the outset than have it appear on an invoice as a surprise.
Minimum booking for South Surrey
South Surrey and White Rock are further again. For anywhere in that area, a single small task is difficult to justify for either of us once travel is accounted for.
Grouping several jobs into one longer visit makes the economics work, and it is genuinely better value for you. If you have one urgent item, say so and we will tell you honestly whether we are the right call or whether someone closer would serve you better.

Do you charge extra to travel to Surrey?
