Appliance Repair

Appliance Installation in Vancouver

The appliance is delivered on a Tuesday morning and the delivery crew leaves it in the hallway. Everything after that — through the doorway, into the opening, connected, levelled and anchored — is a separate job, and the measurements should have happened a week earlier.

Measuring the opening and the doorway

Two measurements, and people take only one. The opening the appliance will live in, and every doorway, hallway turn and staircase between the front door and that opening. A fridge that fits its alcove perfectly is no use if it cannot get past the turn at the top of the stairs.

For fridges specifically, measure the depth with the door and handles included, and check the door can open far enough for the crisper drawers to come out — a fridge in a tight alcove beside a wall often cannot. Where a doorway is genuinely too narrow, the fridge doors can usually be removed temporarily, which is a job worth planning rather than improvising on delivery day.

Water, gas and electrical hookups

Water lines for fridges and dishwashers, and plugging into an existing dedicated outlet, are within what we do. Anything altering the plumbing or adding a circuit goes to a licensed subcontractor, and anything involving gas — a range, a dryer — requires a ticketed gas fitter.

The one to plan for is a gas range or dryer, because the connection has to be made by someone ticketed and that person needs to be scheduled. Delivery crews will place the appliance and will not connect it. Booking that visit for the same afternoon avoids a week of the range standing in the kitchen unusable.

Levelling and anti-tip anchoring

Levelling is not cosmetic. A washing machine out of level walks across the floor under spin and destroys its own bearings; a fridge out of level may not seal or drain its defrost water correctly; a dishwasher out of level leaves standing water in the base.

Freestanding ranges must be fitted with their anti-tip bracket. It is the fixing that stops the range tipping forward when weight is put on an open door — a child standing on it, or a heavy roasting tin — and like dresser straps it is routinely left in the box. We fit it as part of the installation.

Old appliance removal

We will disconnect and move the old appliance out to your garage, kerbside or wherever suits, which is usually the part nobody has planned. We do not haul it away as a disposal service.

Check with your retailer first: many will take the old unit away when delivering the new one, often free, and that is the simplest route. Anything containing refrigerant — fridges, freezers, air conditioners — cannot go in ordinary waste and must go to a depot that recovers it, so those need a proper destination rather than a kerb.

What this costs

$145 diagnostic · repairs $290–$1,100

The diagnostic is credited in full against the repair if you proceed. Where a repair costs more than half of replacement, we say so and you keep the diagnosis.

Materials are always separate from labour and passed on at cost. Quotes are free and written, and the full rate card is published rather than given out on request.

Common questions

Will my new fridge fit through the door?

Measure the whole route, not just the alcove — every doorway, hallway turn and staircase between the front door and the kitchen. Include handles and door thickness in the depth. Where a doorway is genuinely too tight, fridge doors can usually be removed temporarily, but that is worth planning rather than improvising on delivery day.

Do you connect water lines?

Yes for fridges and dishwashers onto existing plumbing. Anything altering the plumbing itself goes to a licensed subcontractor, and any gas connection — a range or gas dryer — requires a ticketed gas fitter, which needs scheduling separately. Delivery crews place appliances; they do not connect them.

Can you take the old appliance away?

We will disconnect it and move it out to your garage or kerbside, but hauling it off is a disposal service we do not offer. Ask your retailer — many remove the old unit on delivery at no charge. Anything with refrigerant cannot go in ordinary waste and needs a depot that recovers it.
